What’s the role
The Systems Maintenance Engineer is responsible for developing and executing strategies to ensure the reliability, integrity, and quality of control systems hardware, software, and applications in alignment with the plant’s business objectives.
You will champion the SMDS culture of Lead with Courage, make it Happen, and Make it Better to drive the site toward Best-in-Class performance as the world’s leading Gas-to-Liquids Specialties facility.
Your role includes performing configuration and hardware modifications to maintain and set up control systems safely and in compliance with SMDS procedures.
You will also coordinate with system vendors, oversee quality and maintenance assurance during FATs and SATs, and manage the implementation of system modifications.
What you’ll be doing
- Plan and execute system maintenance activities including planning, scheduling, material requisition, HSSE risk assessment, and work coordination. This covers systems such as:
- Yokogawa Centum VP (40 FCS)
- Honeywell FSC (28)
- Siemens PCS7 (1)
- Siemens S7 (4)
- Machinery Protection Systems (e.g., System-1, BN3500, Woodward)
- Provide first-line troubleshooting and technical support for control and automation systems. Collaborate with Production and Technology teams and coordinate with Systems Assurance and Field Maintenance to resolve issues. Develop and execute ad hoc procedures to maintain system integrity and availability.
- Ensure timely resolution of system faults, defects, and alarms in collaboration with PACO engineers, Production, Process Engineering, Process Safety, IT, and Instrumentation teams.
- Prioritize maintenance activities and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and maintain documentation such as procedures, work instructions, inspection and testing schedules, and OT security protocols. Regularly review and update existing documentation to reflect current practices.
- Oversee quality and compliance of control system modifications, including design, approval, and implementation, ensuring alignment with regulatory and internal standards.
- Review and validate contractor deliverables, ensuring alignment with SMDS standards. Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) to identify and resolve hardware or configuration issues.
- Stay updated on industry developments in control and protective systems and recommend improvements that enhance business performance.
- Manage assigned contracts in collaboration with the Contracting & Procurement team to address technical challenges effectively.
- Support special assignments or tasks as directed by the Line Manager.
