Basic Purpose/Accountabilities:

The Offshore Fluid Specialist. Supports the Offshore drilling supervisory team in implementing the Drilling and Completion fluids as well as environmental monitoring for Exploration, Drilling and Development activities.

Primary Functions/Responsibilities:

Prior to use of Drilling or Completions fluids.

  • Conducting a comprehensive audit of all areas of the rig in which WBM/SBM/Brine/Dry bulk material is to be used to check for possible leak paths, equipment condition and suitability. Areas of concern are brought to senior rig personnel and operator for rectification.
  • Compiling a critical drain register to determine which drains need to be plugged / sealed to prevent spillage to sea in the event of a Drilling or Completions fluids spill on deck.
  • Compiling a critical valve register to determine which valves need to be isolated.
  • Scrutinizing the rigs risk assessment and procedures register relating to all activities in which Drilling or Completion Fluids are involved and making recommendations are necessary.
  • Ensure spill kits are available and fully stocked at strategic places throughout the rig, and working with senior rig personnel ensure that crews are competent at stopping, containing and cleaning up any spill that might occur.
  • Confirm Solids Control crews have a full complement of spare parts for all equipment.
