Primary Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the safe rig operations. Direct, guide, and motivate immediate subordinates and contractors in conducting ongoing operations ensuring the well plans are executed safely, on time and according to good oilfield practices.
  • Direct day-to-day responsibility for operational decisions that are within the scope of the approved drilling and completion programs. Review proposed technical details and procedures with the Drilling Manager, and Drilling Supervisors during operations. Ensure MOC procedures are adhered to deviations.
  • Work closely with the engineers in preparation of detailed programs, including cost estimates and coordination of cost controls.
  • Determine critical equipment requirements and ensure equipment installations meet COP standards and specifications for well control.
  • Responsible for safety and environmental rig audits.
  • Support the preparation and technical input for all submittals to regulatory agencies and participate in meetings/discussions as required.
  • Monitor daily drilling operations and recommend necessary changes to drilling programs and/or operational practices for enhancing safety and performance.
  • Provide recommendations to management for the human resource requirements to ensure that the drilling team will be capable of meeting the agreed schedule requirements. Lead the selection of rig supervisors and schedule staffing rotations. Mentoring developing engineers and staff.
  • Responsible for ensuring well designs adhere to the ConocoPhillips Well Delivery Process.
  • Ensure daily drilling reports are kept up-to-date, accurate (cost accounting included) and reviewed by onsite drilling supervisors.
  • Work with logistics personnel (rig and shore based) to ensure the rig service and supply plan (RSSP) is up to date, all manifests are accurate, and that delivered equipment/material/tools are correct.
  • Support pre and post contract management for rig and service contractors, including non-compliance reporting and close-out. Ensure acceptable contractual performance and implement corrective actions as required for non-performing contractors.
  • Capture lessons learned, coordinate action reviews, and final well report section summary” to assess overall performance of services contractors and evaluate drilling procedures being implemented.
  • Interface with COP corporate, partners, and PETRONAS as required.
  • Network with other parts of COP to capture experiences that can benefit the current project and enable a learning organization.
