Job Description
• Troubleshoot and repair marine electrical, control and automation systems.
• Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance onboard vessels.
• Inspect and service switchboards, distribution panels, motor-control centres, starters and transformers.
• Troubleshoot generators, motors, alternators, pumps, fans, winches and electrical machinery.
• Inspect, repair and test navigation lights, emergency lighting and alarm systems.
• Troubleshoot PLC, HMI, relay logic and automation control systems.
• Diagnose faults in sensors, transmitters, controllers, actuators, solenoid valves and control loops.
• Service engine-room monitoring, machinery alarm and shutdown systems.
• Support troubleshooting of ballast, bilge, cargo, fuel, cooling-water and HVAC control systems.
• Perform cable laying, glanding, termination, identification and continuity testing.
• Carry out insulation-resistance, earth-continuity, voltage, current and functional tests.
• Install and commission control panels, instruments, field devices and electrical equipment.
• Calibrate pressure, temperature, level and flow instruments when required.
• Read electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, loop drawings and equipment manuals.
• Identify defective components and prepare spare-parts or material requirements.
• Assist with variable-frequency drives, soft starters and motor-protection systems.
• Conduct loop checks, functional testing, cause-and-effect testing and commissioning.
• Prepare service reports, test records, fault findings and completion documentation.
• Coordinate with vessel engineers, shipyard personnel, supervisors and subcontractors.
• Attend vessel breakdowns and emergency calls outside normal working hours when required.
• Follow permit-to-work, lockout/tagout, confined-space and working-at-height procedures.
• Maintain tools and test instruments in safe, calibrated and serviceable condition.
• Perform other related duties assigned by management
